Armies Surrounding, Besieging, And Leaving Jerusalem Desolated And The Temple Destroyed In AD 70 (A Comparison of Luke and Revelation)

Jesus foretold armies would surround, besiege, and destroy Jerusalem and the temple.

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

𝗟𝘂𝗸𝗲 𝟭𝟵:𝟰𝟭-𝟰𝟰 – Jesus said Jerusalem would be besieged by armies.

As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it (42) and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. (43) The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. (44) They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.”

𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝟵:𝟳-𝟭𝟬 – The Roman armies besiege Jerusalem for five months.

The locusts looked like horses prepared for battle [𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗲𝘀]. On their heads they wore something like crowns of gold, and their faces resembled human faces. ( Their hair was like women’s hair, and their teeth were like lions’ teeth. (9) They had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the thundering of many horses and chariots rushing into battle. (10) They had tails with stingers, like scorpions, and in their tails they had power to torment people for five months [𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹 𝟭𝟰-𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟴 𝗔𝗗 𝟳𝟬].

𝗟𝘂𝗸𝗲 𝟮𝟭: 𝟰-𝟲 (𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲)

Some of his disciples were remarking about how the temple was adorned with beautiful stones and with gifts dedicated to God. But Jesus said, (6) “As for what you see here, the time will come when not one stone will be left on another; every one of them will be thrown down.”

𝗟𝘂𝗸𝗲 𝟮𝟭:𝟮𝟬 (𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗝𝗲𝗿𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗺)

“When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near."

𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝟮𝟬:𝟵 (𝗦𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗵’𝘀 𝗟𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 - 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗝𝗲𝗿𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲)

And they [𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲] went up upon the breadth of the earth, and they surrounded the camp of the holy [𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲], and the beloved city [𝗝𝗲𝗿𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗺]: and fire [𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗮𝘄-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗷𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝗲𝗿𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲] came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them [𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗝𝗲𝗿𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲].

𝗟𝘂𝗸𝗲 𝟮𝟯:𝟮𝟳-𝟯𝟬 (𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗝𝗲𝗿𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲)

A large number of people followed him, including women who mourned and wailed for him. (28) Jesus turned and said to them, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and for your children. (29) For the time will come when you will say, ‘Blessed are the childless women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’ (30) Then “ ‘they will say to the mountains, “Fall on us!” and to the hills, “Cover us!” ’

𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝟲:𝟭𝟱-𝟭𝟳 (𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗝𝗲𝗿𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲)

Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and everyone else, both slave and free, hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. (16) They called to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide [𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿] us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! (17) For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can withstand it?”

𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗝𝗲𝗿𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗺 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗱.

𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗼𝗹𝗱.

Jerusalem was left desolate and the temple was destroyed in AD 70 by the nations' armies of the Roman Empire.
